Wil Wheaton last project TitansGrave The Ashes of Valkana, fulfilled the dreams of many tabletop players, providing artistic renderings to a live rpg play through. TitansGrave proved to be an incredibly engaging project with fantastic presentation and an incredibly unique story and world. So now that TitansGrave Season 2 has been confirmed, there are a few points we believe they can improve on. So here were going to lay down the main points that came up in our Podcast: TitansGrave Season 1 Review
Give players consequence to their choices.
In the dream sequence the players were given a number of extremely hard choices ranging from choosing between friends and even their own body parts. Unfortunately when the dream sequence edit this didn’t physically effect their characters at all. Perhaps those choices will come into play in season two, but if your making a dream sequence a lead up to a finale, I think its best to show some immediate results.
Make more adaptations/ don’t put players on rails.
A few instances came up where it seemed like there were multiple paths, only to close off or lead to no where if the right path wasn’t chosen. One of the greatest assets of tabletop gaming is being able to adapt and improvise your stories based on the players choices. I understand that they are on a time limit, so perhaps what can be done for the future is preparing a larger quantity of paths available to take beforehand.
Never play for the players.
A few moments, Wil Wheaton stepped in and said your character reached out or your character walked a few steps. These weren’t critical moments by any means, but to me I would say it’s a golden rule to never speak for the players actions. In short, Wil should never feel like he has to speak for the players.
Put the players in real harm.
After finishing the journey of season 1, while still enthralling and creative, it ended up being really easy. The most critical moment in all of season 1 was Aankia having 10 HP left, which was almost instantly restored. Now that we are confirmed for a season 2, we know that there are much bigger and more challenging things to come. So please convince us that this is really going to be a life threatening journey. This is essential for making both viewers and players take the story seriously and grow closer to the characters.
