Last year at E3 many fans were upset at the fact that Nintendo didn’t have a longer-form stage presentation but instead chose to release a video that they would later call a “Nintendo Direct”. Critics argued that the problem was that Nintendo didn’t receive any excitement or buzz at E3 and much of the information didn’t get out to the public because of it. Well even with the critics, Nintendo seems to be sticking with their guns and they will going with the same strategy this year, albeit with some twists that I think will help to generate a lot of hype.
Inspired by the independent artist charity that provided artists’ rendering of pokemon, now comes another charity auction covering the vast world of Nintendo called “Press Start.” This showcase provides a great deal of talent from countless artists providing their renditions of classic and current Nintendo series. From fun, to pulse pounding and heartfelt, each artist has successfully put a piece of themselves into the series that they have fell in love with and followed for generations. What more can be said? This gallery is the beautiful work of true fans. The best part about this gallery is that you can bid on your favorite piece of artwork and proceeds go to the Morgan Autism Center. Bidding ends May 16th so start bidding your favorite piece!

One of the most notorious cult classics of the video game world is finally getting the recognition fans have sought after with undying faith and persistence. In 2013 Earthbound finally received a re-release on the Wii U and in recent news Earthbound is going to get a documentary on the journey of those who fought so hard to make this lost gem of Nintendo return to the current generation. This documentary has been long in the process with the combined efforts of Jeff Benson and associates with Fangamer.net and Starmen.net.
Super Smash Bros. Melee is seeing a major resurgence over the past year. After the game was a featured game at the Evo championship in Las Vegas last year, the game has been at every major fighting game tournament the last few months and has seen some pretty crazy entrance numbers at those tournaments. But even with the new blood being injected in the scene, it’s surprising to see such major E-Sports players enter the scene.
Well it is a sad day for those excited for Bungie’s new next-gen title “Destiny” set to release later this year. As the internet collectively found out earlier this week, Marty O’Donnell, the composer of the iconic original Halo music, has been “terminated without cause” by the company.
You can see the the original tweet by O’Donnell himself here.

Hot on the heels of some great downloadable content from Borderlands 2, Take Two interactive announces a new installment in the Borderlands series: Borderlands: the Pre-sequel. The game will take place between Borderlands 1 and 2, hence the ridiculous name, and it shows Handsome Jack’s rise to power before the events of Borderlands 2. At first glance this looked like another piece of DLC to me, however it is clear that Take-Two isn’t taking the easy way out.
Nintendo released a special Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct today, dedicated completely to the new Smash releasing later this year. There is a plethora of new information, so I’ll paraphrase most of it here and talk a little about the most exciting news to me. We will obviously go more in-depth on the podcast, so keep an eye out for that.
