Boy howdy did we get an episode this week. Even going beyond the return of Bill Cipher, the primary objectives of this episode anchored firmly to philosophy of morale and lessons in characteristic omnipotence. [Read more…]

Gangsta episode 9 review
Gangsta is back for another episode, and in this one we see the conclusion of the big Twilight party along with learning a little more about the duo that are terrifying Twilights across the city. However, all of this comes with a caveat…
The animation in this episode is bad. I’m not going to spend the entire review talking about how bad, but suffice it to say that I spent most of the episode distracted by it, which is never something an animator wants. It was especially bad when I could tell that something was off even during an action scene, where there is supposed to be enough motion blur and movement to cover up some of it. I don’t know what’s happened (either the budget has tanked or they rushed to meet a deadline) but at some places it really distracts from what could be great scenes.
Alright, so the animation wasn’t great this episode, but there are other moments that I want to mention because plot-wise it was a good episode.
The episode picks up where the last left off, with Ally finishing her song at the party and Worick and Nic fighting Anti-Twilights. Things get interesting when we see that Ivan Glaziev, a member of one of the other four families has blackmailed a twilight in order to convince them to murder the Cristiano boss. That plan backfires when Galahad, one of the Cristiano’s hired Twilights, absolutely demolishes him, and we see Ivan bring in the secret weapons to finish the job.
This is where we see the two horrible twilights, which have been killing their own kind, in action for the first time. Erica, who is most surely the sibling of Delico (Mr. Monroe’s bodyguard), and a little boy with supernatural strength wreak havoc upon the party, killing dozens of Twilights. It’s obvious that these two will become the main antagonists, but with only a few episodes left, I hope they have time to flesh out their characters.
Nic and Worick finally make it back to the party, just in time to save Ally’s life from Erica. The ensuing fight is interesting, but ultimately held back by the lackluster animation. I kept thinking that if this was anything like the first big twilight fight in the series, it could have been much better. Regardless, we do get a bit of information regarding Twilight ranks. Galahad calls Nic a “faker” and then explains that Nic only climbs the Twilight ranks by overdosing on the drug Celebrer, which numbs his pain, and kills higher ranked Twilights in the process, thus increasing his rank.
And speaking of rank, we finally get to see our first S rank when we see a Twilight from the guild show up to save Nic and Worick from the dangerous duo that has slaughtered the party. Ginger is incredibly fast, and as an S/5 rank, she is the first person to scare the two antagonists, and they take off into the night.
At the very end of the episode, we see Ally’s brother has joined forces with the Corsica family and other leaders of the underground, but we don’t yet know why…
So all in all, it was still a good episode plot-wise, and the pacing is still very good, but the animation really takes away from the action scenes and more dramatic scenes. Hopefully next week will be better and we can learn a little more about the Corsica’s master plan!
I’ve been dying to do a new origin article since Parasyte Origins. However, The series thus far has presented some very interesting Yokai, but they seemed to be originally made or at least their origins have been very hard to find. [Read more…]
The internet is truly a wonderful thing where so much hidden talent can be found. Today I stumbled upon Adriana Figueroa, who covers numerous Video Game and Cartoon series songs along with her own original work. Her sweet gentle voice complements the soothing tinker toy and piano lullaby melodies to make some truly masterful and heart wrenching pieces.
Here are my 3 favorite songs from Adriana, but give this girl some love and support at the following locations:
Leaves from the Vine (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
Uncle Iroh’s song in honor of his son who fell in battle, no other moment in the series gave me so much heartache.
Rose’s Farewell (Steven Universe)
A beautiful cover of Rose’s farewell wish towards his dear son, such an honor to one of the best series currently running.
Mario Kart Love Song (Original Song by Sam Hart)
Perhaps the greatest blend of love and nerdiness around. Adriana melds her own style to it to give us an adorbs overload!
Sonic The Hedgehog
The Book of Life
Legend of Korra
Mighty Switch Force
Avatar The Last Airbender
Legend of Zelda
Attack on Titan
Game of Thrones
Gangsta episode 8 review
I’m back once again with a Gangsta episode review, this time for episode 8. Even though I got to it late this week, Gangsta continues to impress me with good character moments and plenty of plot foreshadowing.
This episode focused more on Ally than the previous episodes, which dealt almost exclusively with revealing Nic and Worick’s past. After originally thinking that Ally would be the weaker part of the show, that has remained untrue, and it was especially so this week. We get to see a little of Ally’s past when she suddenly remembers she had a little brother. It seems the drugs that have been haunting Ally have taken their toll and given her a certain amnesia, although Worick assures her it’s only temporary.
The sudden realization that she has forgotten incredibly important aspects of her past sends Ally into another episode, and these are becoming some of my favorite moments of the show. The direction that the series has taken with showing Ally’s PTSD is incredibly well done, and the interactions between all the characters because of it is fantastic. Nic helps Ally in this episode by simply being there for her and calming her down, which we have now seen both the Handymen do in her time of need. It continually reminds us of the fact that they all are beginning to care for each other, and the dynamic is a great part of the show.
After cutting to later that night (and seeing Ally in a ridiculous dress, which the show seems to relish doing), we learn a little more about Ally’s past and the anti-twilight movement. The Cristiano’s are having a party; which we quickly find out is a front to try and protect Twilights from angry mobs of anti-twilights. Unfortunately, we don’t learn much about these anti-twilights, but we do finally get to know more about the Cristiano family and their clear allegiance to Twilights. It’s good to see one of the four families have some sort of empathy for them.
Then we get the big moment of the episode, which is Ally singing for the entire party at the Cristiano mansion. Turns out Ally can really sing, and Worick brought her to this soiree for that exact reason. She sings a beautiful song that we then learn is related to her-long-lost brother in a series of flashbacks, showing her singing the song to him when she was younger. And of course this show likes teasing you, so we see a man that has just come to Ergastulum trying desperately to get into the party after hearing Ally’s song. I see a reunion coming, for better or worse…

We haven’t had a nice deep little countdown since 4 Heartfelt Modern Scenes in Modern Cartoons. I thought we were overdue so get ready to feel the feels. In the world of media art I love seeing two contrasting elements blended together. One of the most interesting characters running this theme are robots or machine affiliated characters that act or feel very human. Beyond exploring a very interesting theme, these are just a lot great recommendations for your watching pleasure, hope you enjoy! [Read more…]
